The basis of effective supply chain management is optimal strategic planning with supply chain design. Decisions are made here about the assignment of orders to suppliers, location issues for production and the direction of logistics. The design and detailed planning of the logistics network in particular allow the company to identify and follow the right strategy in changing market conditions, to successfully launch new products on the market and to be prepared when new market segments emerge. The planning of following areas provides opportunities to make adjustments in supply chain design:

Sales and material requirements planning

Sales and turnover planning requires exact forecasts, which are supplied by different functions of a second module in supply chain design: On the basis of historic sales figures, casual factors, including events (e.g. marketing campaigns), market data and sales targets, sales and material requirements planning calculates the quantities that must be made available to suppliers and production to ensure that the market can be supplied with the necessary product quantities. Procurement and production capacities as well as distribution and logistics channels are compared with these to obtain realistic quantities and to enable manufacturers to create accurate procurement plans.

Production planning and detailed scheduling

In turn, these procurement plans provide the basis for the design of production and manufacturing in the Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling module. They support resource, material and procurement restrictions as well as the order sequence for large quantities, improvements to the production line and accurate component planning (batch production). For predefined campaigns, the system can optimize planning and the campaign processes by means of push production and block scheduling.

Distribution resource planning

Once goods have been manufactured and produced, distribution resource planning can be used to optimize product quantities and distribution channels to optimize merchandise distribution in supply chain design and thereby reduce missing quantities and shipping costs without increasing the overall warehouse quantities.

Transportation planning

With the data now available, it is possible to carry out vehicle scheduling and route planning and to calculate vehicle capacities using transportation planning, thereby ensuring a smooth transportation chain. The system takes into account all restrictions and basic conditions, such as the transportation of hazardous goods and refrigerated cargo, express deliveries, etc., and is connected to SAP LES (Logistics Execution System).

Availability planning

The global available to promise (gATP) check can be conducted across all plants and across various stages to verify the status of a product for currently incoming sales orders.

Supply Chain Design

Planning supported by IM&C

IM&C supplements your supply chain design by providing valuable, proven experience from a variety of projects in supply chain planning for different companies (see also Industries). IM&C not only supports you in your cross-company supply chain planning, but connects supply chain planning to the value chain (costs and revenues at product level) using unique technology (GCP Engine). This results in an integrated group profit planning/profitability analysis based on planned sales volumes.
