MFCC-Workshop

The Mannheim Finance & Controlling Club (MFCC) organizes workshops, normally together with associated companies, with the goal to enhance know-how and skills of the students as well as to procure important occupational qualifications.

Relating to this, IM&C realized a workshop in the Victoria-Tower titled “Corporate earnings and statement” in coordination with Prof. Dr. Franz Steffens, head of the department for business studies, organization and commercial information technology at the University of Mannheim.

The market requires increasingly a solution for company-wide planning and calculation  of corporate manufacturing costs and corporate earnings. The Mannheim students, often prepared with lectures on advanced planning and scheduling (APS), were very interested in learning in which manner APS results can be applied in global cost and earnings forecast via the SAP add-on GCP engine. At the same time they could learn on how GCP advances the accuracy of operative planning and enables more frequent planning cycles.

The workshop was based on SAP modules CO-PC (product costing) and CO-PA (profitability analysis) and pointed out the methodical differences of transaction volume and total costs in local versus global accounting.

Presentations on description of tension-filled areas between supply and value chain, difference between local and global cost component splitting, components of the GCP engine, and planning integration in SAP were supplemented by an exercise course and a discussion round.
