5th Conference of Medium-sized Businesses in the Rhine-Necker Metropolitan Region

On September 25, 2007, the 5th Conference of Medium-Sized Businesses in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region (RNMR) was performed in the Ludwigshafen Wilhelm-Hack-Museum under the theme ”Winning in the metropolitan region: knowledge – achievement – income”. Approximately 160 participants exchanged views with colleagues and experts of medium-sized businesses.

In his introductory lecture, the conductor and consultant Christian Gansch used some skilled analogies as well as appropriate music examples and thereby showed what both companies and region could learn from an efficient orchestra.

This year’s conference of medium-sized businesses focused on business-related key data and strategic success factors: After a short introduction, the participants had in 9 ”table talks” the opportunity to exchange views on questions of practical relevance with experts and colleagues. Amongst others the following subjects were treated: effective protection of intellectual property, human resource strategies in times of ageing societies and demographic shift and which factors have to be considered when deciding on expansion. Furthermore, interesting models of consulting and coaching for medium-sized businesses have been presented as well as private equity as a form of financing.

In the panel discussion was talked about the present situation and future potential s of development and improvement for medium-sized businesses in the metropolitan region. Speakers on the podium were amongst others the board members of the Association Future of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, Dr. Eva Lohse, mayor of Ludwigshafen, Bernhard Schreier, CEO of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, and Dr. Peter Kurz, mayor of Mannheim.

Medium-sized business forms the backbone of our region. The Conference of Medium-Sized Businesses in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region provides a good opportunity to boost the dialogue between company representatives”, said Ludwigshafen’s mayor, Dr. Eva Lohse.
